With the help of 26 drum rudiments and the scale syllabus, Yak – a self produced – self published – self taught – multi instrument musician – started out as a child banging his hands. Growing up into a percussionist / drummer / marimba player performing live with both original and cover bands from “CBGB’s” in N.Y.C. (now closed), to “The Chance” in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and even going so far as to play his marimba in Jamaica with several authentic reggae bands on the island. Eventually branching out to other instruments, composing his signature style instrumentals with a “never the same way once” – “spontaneous” – “out of left field” -philosophy of creating music. “I like to track music blind sometimes and see where it comes out in the end. I find this approach very exciting .” A lot of this record was created this way. If I had to coin a phrase for this music I would say it is a kind of “High Energy New Age” or H.E.N.A. for short (as in JAZZ or FUNK etc.). In the end the only category that is important to me is: Does the music please the ear? Do the paintings please the eye? This is my mission!
